What is Alternator

What is Alternator?

The alternator is electrical devices which can mechanical energy convert into electrical energy, basically it used in cars for battery charging and headlights etc.

Alternator

The alternator connect with engine so when engine will start then it will also be rotate with help of engine, and it will produce electrical energy, but it will produce "AC" current, so we used Diode in the inside of alternator which can "AC" current convert to "DC" current, then power will supplies to battery and other electrical or electronics equipment.

How to works alternator?

The alternator works at Faraday's law, its law says that when any metallic rod be rotate in center of any conductor then it will produce magnetic flux, then flux will transfer to conductor or wire, and then electrical energy will flow from conductor.

The alternator basically has two main parts.

1. Stator

2. Rotor

1- The stator is fixed parts, and it also known by filed windings, because the stator made by iron sheets and it has poles where copper coil will fixed

2- The rotor is rotating part because is will be rotate in center of stator, and it rotates by help of any engine its completely made by iron but it has some poles.

Difference between generator and alternator
The alternator mostly used in Automobiles, cars, truck, and etc.

The alternator only used for DC current, when the it produce AC current but is has inside fixed diode for this its output always be DC current.

When the generator used in houses, factories, and etc.

We have two types of generator, “AC” and “DC” but its depended that which we have required, the typically we used “AC” generator because 80% equipment needs “AC” current, such as Motor, Refrigerator, Iron, and also which machines used in factories it required “AC” current.
