How does Battery work?

The basic working principal of battery is electrons moving.

Basically you known that anything is made by "Atom" and "Atom is composed of three particles, which is "Electrons", "Neutrons", and "Protons".

So, "Electrons" has Negative charge, and "Protons" has Positive charge, and "Neutrons" has No any charges, means "Neutrons" is Neutral.

The basically two same charges will repel to each other, and two different charges will attract to each other, this is the nature.

For this, Protons will attract to Electrons, because Protons has Positive charge, and Electrons has Negative charge.

Thus, this is technical term used in battery.

Which discussed above, this is the basic term for understand that how actually battery work.

Now we discuss about battery that how does battery works.

We have many different types of battery, but any battery works at same working principal.

The any battery has two plates, the one plate has Positive charge and second plate has Negative charge.

So actually we connect both plates by any Load, such as when the one wire of load will connect to battery's positive plate, and other wire of load will connect to battery's negative plates, then Negative charge or Electrons will move from negative plate to positive plate.

How to flow electrons from negative plate
Electrons Flow

Thus any equipment or Load attached with battery it will run, because Electron moves from load to the positive plate from negative plate.

And this remember that, the Electrons move from negative to positive, but Current always flow from positive to negative. And this is nature.

How battery discharged?

Which we have discussed above those Electrons will move from negative to positive, this reason that battery get discharge. Because all Electrons will moved to positive side from negative side, so if negative Electrons will finished from plate, then battery charging will be zero and it cannot run any load, means current it will not give

How to battery charge?

Which Electrons has moved to positive plates and accrue in Positive side by load running, in charging process same Electrons moves to negative plate from positive plates with help of charge, and when all negative Electrons moved to negative plates then charging will complete.

Thus battery charge and discharge

Types of battery

The basically 2 types of batteries

  • Primary battery
  • Secondary battery

The Primary battery is single used battery, it can't recharge, if this type of batteries discharged once time, it will not charge and not capable for charging and used.

The Secondary batteries are rechargeable battery, it can use many times, and if it discharge then it can recharge and will capable for use.

Types of secondary battery
Secondary battery

The both type of batteries has some other types, which used at different places, such as different batteries used in different equipment and devices.

The different types of batteries has different life time, which batteries can be recharge, such as secondary batteries its Life time is long and short, rechargeable batteries has long life and some has short life.

And also non chargeable batteries such as primary batteries, also has different time backup, some batteries more efficient and some less efficient

Types of primary batteries

1- Alkaline battery
2- Zinc carbon battery
3- Zinc silver oxide

1- The Alkaline Battery used in toy cars, TV remote, digital electronics meter, and etc.

2- The zinc carbon battery is same like “Alkaline” battery, but these both batteries have chemical composition difference.

Difference between alkaline and zinc carbon battery.

The Alkaline battery use potassium hydroxide and Zinc carbon composed of ammonium chloride.

3- Zinc silver oxide in this types zinc used for anode, and silver oxide using as cathode.

Its looks like a button, and this is very small in size, for this it can easily adjust in any small equipment.

This type of batteries mostly used in Clock watch, and in "PC" for time running, and. Etc.

Types of secondary batteries

  • Lead acid battery
  • Ni-Cd battery
  • Ni-MH battery

  • Li ion battery
1- Lead acid

The Lead acid battery is most useful batteries, it used in Cars, Solar system, Inverters, Companies etc.

In this battery has plates, which called "Lead" and in this battery needs to special water, which called Acid, the acid is chemical reaction water.

This battery name made by these two names Lead Acid batteries, the lead acid batteries is not costly, but these types of batteries has big size than other batteries, but it can generate high amount of current, for this it used in Cars for self staring, and it used in homes or solar system because its low costly.

2- Ni-Cd battery

These type of batteries using Nickel oxide hydroxide, and metallic cadmium, this battery looks like this

These batteries mostly used in Laptop battery, and some rechargeable equipment, such as emergency lights etc.

3- Ni-MH battery

The Ni-MH is similar to Ni-Cd battery but these both batteries has different efficiency, when the Ni-MH has higher energy than Ni-Cd.

4- Li-ion battery

The Li-ion composed of cells, the Lithium ions move from negative to positive.

These batteries is mostly used in Cell phones, mobile ad etc.
